The Trees that made Britain

In late 2005 I was commissioned by the BBC to write and illustrate the book to go with the BBC2 8-part series of the same name. The programmes were introduced by Tony Kirkham and Jon Hammerton (from Kew), who also wrote an introduction for the book.

Published in 2006 (and more recently reprinted in 2007) “The Trees that made Britain” has already sold more than 20,000 copies. This lavishly illustrated hardback book (220 x 280 mm), of 216 pages, is almost exclusively illustrated by Archie Miles’ photography and historic images from his extensive picture library. Subjects covered include: Introduced broadleaf trees, Introduced conifers, Orchards, Hedgerows, and six monographs on yew, oak, elm, ash, beech and Scots pine. The book is a wealth of botanical information, cultural associations and historic background. This is a bright and lively introduction to the trees and treescapes of Britain.

I always have a few copies in hand, so if you want a personally signed copy it will be £22.50 inclusive of post and packing.

Payment by cheque only please, made out to Archie Miles. Please allow ten working days for delivery.
